Fully Automated Tent Curing for 120-tonne Bridge Beams in Western Australia

PERMAcast is Western Australia’s largest producer of bridge and infrastructure precast products — their beams weigh up to 120 tonnes a piece. At that scale, controlled accelerated curing isn’t optional. It’s a regulatory requirement.
When order volumes surged and PERMAcast invested in new European formwork technology, they needed a curing system that could keep up. After a worldwide evaluation, they came to us.


What We Built
We designed a complete, season-independent curing system tailored to their energy demands and local statutory requirements:
1. CureSteam generator — sized for the climate and the workload
2. 90 m × 10 m motor-driven tent enclosure — the operator pours, presses start on the touch panel, and walks away. The tent closes automatically before the 24-hour curing cycle begins, and opens again when it’s done. No one needs to watch the clock.
3. CureSteam PLC controls temperature, humidity, and timing — fully automated, no manual intervention
4. Custom container solution — sound-insulated, thermally insulated, with lighting, ventilation, and air conditioning. It doubles as a fully equipped equipment room on site.
Our engineers spent two weeks on site for installation, commissioning, and operator training.

Why a Tent?
Let’s be honest — for many applications, tent chambers aren’t the first choice. Insulation is lower, and durability is limited compared to fixed chambers.
But when you’re curing long-span beams and columns that don’t fit inside conventional chambers, the tent is the most practical approach. And with the right automation, it doesn’t compromise on the cure.
